Moon Salutations and Vata Winds

Tadasana – Mountain Pose

I’ve been in a funk lately. My mind has been distracted,  my breath halted, my body sluggish. I’ve been having a hard time with my home practice.  It’s been tough working though my allergies and all the busyness, so being sick and exhausted I tried to move through my go-to restorative poses but it just felt somehow disconnected.

Uttanasana – Forward Fold

I needed warmth, light,  movement.  But I just don’t have it in me for a more robust practice.

The full moon is tonight and vata winds are blowing.  Vata is the Sanskrit word for air. Vata season is a time of change, movement,  transition.  Vata season can also bring about anxiety,  imbalance,  disconnecting. I’m definitely feeling that.  I’ve been seeking balance,  warmth,  quiet. Yet stillness is not the answer for me right now.  I’m looking for my center in that fluid line between no longer and not yet.

Malasana – Squat Pose

So often we forget to honor the space in between.  We rush around, forever focused on where we are going, constantly nagged by where we’ve been. Vata season is a perfect time to make peace with the in between and the full moon is a beautiful symbol of change and transitions.

Low Lunge

Tonight we experience the Harvest Moon, the first full moon of fall, also a Blood Moon (also known as a full lunar eclipse). In addition, the moon is also a super moon, meaning it will appear larger in the sky. This intense lunar happening invokes the ability to tap into powerful changes. Now is the time to start something new or to let go of whatever doesn’t serve you

My theory is this: if you strive for bliss, bliss you shall find. How do I know? I live this theory every day. I'm Kate, a 30-something yoga teacher, rock climber, cozy clothes addict extraordinaire. I am here in this world, raw and unyielding, living a life of intention and bliss. This blog is a way for me to share the bliss I have found through food, fitness, and friendship. I strive for bliss every day, and every day I find it. I hope you find it too. Namaste.
